Hidden special brush
I posted my new illustration on April 4.
In this illustration, I used a transparent brush that changes shading with brush pressure. I used this to make the skirt look like polyester and the ribbon look like satin. Can you feel the texture? Check out the "detailed" link!
I have not used transparent brushes very much in the past. I was not good at using them because they left traces of strokes that were not clean, and I could not composite layers as I wanted to. But now I have awakened the brush from its long slumber. I still need more practice, but I hope to get used to it from now on.
I also posted a sketch of the practice I drew before this illustration.
Looking back
This is an addition to this newsletter in which I look back at the review notes I keep for each illustration I do. I look back at them to remind myself of how I felt at the time, and also to look back at them now to see what I think will be useful.
Her costume has been altered to a bunny outfit. This is a common change in fan art posted on the Internet.
The bottom half of the screen is lacking. It could have been cropped above the knee. With the bunny's ears, the screen design does not work as usual. The center of gravity changes because it is impossible not to show the ears.
I forgot to paint the thigh ornament. I did a rough job of omitting the clean-up sheet. When I painted this picture, I was not in a hurry, but I was trying to find a way to paint it quickly. But the production time was the same as usual. It seems that skipping a few steps does not make it faster. It makes the rest of the work more difficult, and I sometimes forget things. To be fast, it is important to be careful. The best way to speed up the process is to concentrate on the work.
I often ask if I can somehow draw it faster. But I think the answer is right at this point. The correct answer is not to try to take shortcuts, but to be careful and concentrate on moving your hands. This seems to be true, even six months after this note, with no way to disprove it. However, it is difficult even if you know it.
